Pulley Diameters
Load transmission capacity of belt is directly proportional to its speed. Large diameter pulleys with increased surface speed and consequently high load capacity (of the belts), gives a greater safety to the outer plies of the belts from the effect of excessive stress and also help to regulate the load throughout the cross section of the belt.

Installation/ Inspection & Care of Transmission Belts

For getting correct initial tension the length of the belt is cut shorter than the actual steel tape measurement around the pulleys on the following basis:
a) Belts upto 3 plies - 1.5% or 15 MM/ Mtr.
b) Belts with 4. 5 & 6 plies - 1.0% or 10 MM/ Mtr.
c) Belts upto 7 plies - 0.5% or 5 MM/ Mtr.

Both ends of the belts should be square cut at the right angles to the edges and should not have ragged cotton ends.

Let the belt run for few minutes and read just the tension, if necessary.
